U2 Concert

Happy Birthday Bono!

What??? Bono is 50! I guess you're never to old to be a rockstar!

Yeah, Yeah, I know...I need to keep this more current!

So I'm not sure how many people actually read me blog, so maybe no one cares when I update it. But since it's been over two months I guess I should stop slacking. Here's the highlights...

Disneyland in March...Shelisa drove to Southern California with my sister Liz and her family. We spend three great days in Disneyland and put Shelisa on a plane home so she didn't have to miss too much school to fly back to Utah. It was a little cold and the lines were a little longer than we thought they would be, but we had sooooo much fun!!!! Disneyland really is one of the happiest places on earth and our family LOVES visiting the Magic Kingdom.

Surprise, I'm home.....Shelisa and several friends decided to jump in the car and drive home over conference weekend. Of course no one here knew until about 9:30 that night when Shelisa decided she wouldn't be home in time to make it a big surprise. She called from somewhere in the Sierra's to tell me she would be home around midnight. Ken was away for work and Kayla and Alyssa were in bed so I kept the secret and she surprised them. It was so nice to have her home and she stayed long enough to drive back with us because we had planned a short trip to see her over Spring Break.

Spring Break....The girls and I drove to Utah for part of Spring Break. There was this really cold funny white stuff falling from the sky when we got to Provo and thank goodness it went away. We got to check out Shelisa's dorm for the first time and met a few of her friends and her roommate. We had a great time together. We missed Ken and wish he could have come with us, but that work thing got in the way.

Freshman year over....Shelisa is officially finished with her first year at BYU and is home until the end of August. She is working at Jamba Juice again and whatever other odd jobs she can find to make money for school. It's nice to have her home, but it will probably be the last time she is home for good. It's not as fun at home as it used to be. We can all remember that!

The Eagles....Ken loves The Eagles and we had tickets to their concert the end of April. Ken LOVED it! One of the band members referred to their tour as the assisted living tour. There weren't very many young people there that's for sure and standing up to clap or dance, completely out of the question because someone would yell at you to sit down.

I Dream of Janae....Our ward had a great ward party (adults only). The theme this year was classic TV. Ken and I were Major Nelson and Jeannie. I have a official Jeannie costume forever now. It was a lot of fun!

Mother's Day.....MaggieRay's BBQ in Alamo is where it's at. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the BBQ there. We had a nice evening on the patio having dinner on Saturday. On Sunday, we had warm chocolate chip cookies at church and ice cream cake from Cold Stone for desert after dinner. YUM!!! I'm truly loved!

Merry Christmas Ken!

I bought Ken tickets to see Bon Jovi for Christmas. We went to their concert last night. Super fun! It just so happened to be Jon Bon Jovi's birthday so they really rocked it. We had a great time, but we're definately both feeling it today, 6am comes pretty early when you don't go to bed until 1am. Here are a few pictures and their set list. A really good show and Jon Bon Jovi is still just as hot as he was 20 years ago.

We've got popcorn!

Ken bought a popcorn machine. Not just any popcorn machine, a movie theater popcorn machine. Why you ask, because every family needs to have a giant popcorn machine sitting on their kitchen counter. Alyssa is in love with it. She's made popcorn several time. It's going to be fun to have. We're thinking of movie nights in the back yard with friends, Young Men, Young Women, school parties, etc. We have the machine, you provide the popcorn!

I've really sucked!

So my last post was in December, which officially means I've sucked at updating our blog. Especially since I put my blog address on my Christmas letter. So here are the highlights.

Shelisa came home for Christmas. We hadn't seen her since she left to go to school in August. It was really nice to have her home. My favorite quote, which she said several times, was "What time will dad be home because it's 2 o'clock and I haven't showered yet?" She had a lazy vacation which I think she really enjoyed. She hung out with a few friends, but her favorite activity was to lay on the couch.

Over the Christmas break we took everyone to see the King Tut exhibit at the DeYoung Museum in Golden Gate Park. We saw it several years ago in Los Angeles, but this time our kids were a little older and a lot more interested.

I had my birthday in January and I didn't get a surprise trip to Disneyland this year. It was pretty low key. The best present was no young women's that night. The day after my birthday, my parents flew out for a visit. We had a nice and relaxing time with them.

We're big movie people and we finally say Avatar. I was reluctant to see it in 3D, but I really enjoyed it. We also saw Leap Year and I have to say Matthew Goode is a hottie.

In February our stake had the roadshow, which was really skit night because they changed it so much, but I won't rant about that on the blog. I will say it wasn't the disaster I thought it was going to be, but there was a lot of pressure on the kids that they haven't had in the past. Some of the thought it was fun, other's not so much.

Ken just had his birthday, which he really wishes we would just ignore, but we didn't. We had our annual crab feed last night with about 26 of our closest friends. Thank goodness I didn't have to steam the crab. But my house still smells like crab. Today's is Valentine's Day, one of the dumbest holiday's ever, because seriously, we have to have a day to show people we love them. You can't do that every day!?! Tomorrow we have our Young Women's fundraiser. We are making about 550 calzones. We're hoping to use the money to help some of our girls go to girls camp and to help pay for our retreat in June.

We'll, I think I've touched on all the highlights. I'm going to try to be a little more on top of things. New Year's resolution, no way. Just a good thought.

Merry Christmas Young Men and Young Women

I was in charge of our young men/young women activity this last Wednesday. It turned out to be fabulous, even though I was a little stressed about it. Here's what we did.....

I sent out letters to 25 different families in our ward asking them to help me with the activity., None of them had kids in young men and young women. All they had to do was be as mean or as rude as they could be to the group of kids who came to their door to deliver cookies and carol. Each group was assigned 4 houses to visit (not everyone could help that night). And at each house they were rejected. After going to the last house, the leader suggested the group take the cookies to the Bishop's house. When each group got to the Bishop's house they were invited in and after everyone was there we talked to them about the experience they just had and compared it to Mary and Joseph looking for shelter at an inn and being turned away time and time again. It was a humbling experience for some of the kids. They left with a better understanding of what happened to Mary and Joseph. I did tell them I set everything up, some of the kids were pretty traumatized by the experience.
